Looking for a criminal lawyer in Plenty? We provide quality legal advice and support at a reasonable cost, so that you can effectively present your case and achieve a better outcome.
Before being formally charged, Victorian police will conduct an interview with you. This usually takes place at the side of the road, if you have been pulled over by police — usually for a road-related crime — or at the police station. Remember: you have the right to request to speak to a lawyer before talking to police when faced with an allegation. As most criminal charges are rather serious, rather complex and may result in jail time, you should always make use of this right.
If, after the interview, the police have sufficient evidence of guilt — or believe they have this evidence — then they can charge you with a criminal offence. Part of the process is a document called a charge sheet that outlines any and all offences you have been charged with. You will need to keep this for your defence.
There are two streams of charges: summary and indictable. Summary charges are less serious, and you will only have to appear in the Magistrates Court. With indictable charges, you can end up in either the County or Supreme Court. Depending on the charges, you may or not be granted bail.
Your Plenty lawyer will be able to break down the process of your individual journey in the court and what you will need to do — they will take care of the rest.
Last — but certainly not least — is your court appearance. We will prepare you with everything you need to feel ready to attend court and will be by your side. We will take responsibility for speaking to the prosecutors and court staff on your behalf, to ensure that your voice is always heard and that your interests are considered in the proceedings.
The court process can take a long time, depending on the severity of the charges, and you may have to appear in court several times before the results of your case are determined. With our help though, there will be little that you will have to do — we’ll do all the heavy lifting to get you the best outcome we can.
